LP
GAS ASSOCIATION
CYLINDER RETRIEVAL
In the UK there are an enormous amount of LP gas cylinders in circulation and, despite the industry's best efforts, some of the cylinders fall out of the trading scheme for a variety of reasons and many of these end up at civic amenity sites and scrap yards.
With the rationalisation within the industry in recent years, we now have the situation where five companies own around 90% of these cylinders and these five companies have made their own arrangements for the recovery of their cylinders.
Regional cylinder supply companies are encouraged to make appropriate arrangements for the collection of their cylinders and the services offered by Synergy Asset Services are available for their use if required.
Every LPG cylinder supply company has a responsibility to recover their assets from wherever they may end up. Failure to conform to minimum operating standards on cylinder collection could lead to very negative consequences for the industry.
It is important for the industry to maintain a good working relationship with the local authority waste disposal officers, and having each and every LP gas supply company with an efficient, pro-active cylinder collection scheme is the best way of achieving this.
The cylinder retrieval arrangements in place for the major national companies are given below. However, for a comprehensive list of ALL brand names, together with their parent company and contact telephone number for collection, please click on the link below called "Who Owns Who".
Since the introduction of the European Waste Legislation on 16th July 2005 any cylinders that come into the waste stream that are not owned by a UK company or are totally unidentifiable can only be treated as "waste" product and disposed of as such.

If that is not possible many Local Authority amenity sites have storage
cages from which the gas supplier arranges pick up.
